"Little BIG" : 12 TFlops HPC Cluster (1 054 cores)

Cluster HPC EURO/CFD, Dr Karim LOUESLATI

A HPC cluster (High Performance Computing) is composed of many calculation servers which together offer powerful processing.

Today, HPC clusters are mainly used in universities and private engineering firm.

From the beginning, EURO/CFD decided to invest personal funds in their own HPC cluster, without public aid.

Today, Little BIGis the largest HPC cluster among French SME (Small and Medium Entreprises).

Little BIG represents:

  • 100 Servers bi or quadri sockets including last generation processors:

- Intel quadri, octo and hexacores series 55XX and 56XX

- AMD Opteron series 22XX and 23XX and INTERLAGOS

  • 6 To of RAM,
  • A Fast Infiniband QDR (40 Gb/s) network,
  • A Ethernet Gigabits network,
  • An automatic storage system manages with Atempo Time Navigator©

Thanks to Little BIG, speed of calculation at EURO/CFD is significantly faster: up to 60 times compared to standard system. By performing complex calculations faster, we shorten the time software and technical means are used. The final cost is therefore lowered for our customers.

Technical means

Little BIG: 1 054 processors type AMD Opteron / Intel Xeon operated under Windows HPC 2008 R2 and Linux CentOS, in 64 bits. The Fast InfiniBand Network enables it to realize calculations on more than 500 million of cells. .

Safety of data

To respect confidentiality and security of customers' data, we posses an independant and secure cluster. Files are automatically saved both locally and remotely.

Current temperature within the cluster room is: 23.1 °Celsius
